The word Aikido is pronounced "EYE-KEY-DOE".
It is made up of three basic Japanese words.

  • Ai   EYE   means harmony, blending or coordination
  • Ki   KEY  your mental and physical presence, your spirit or your energy
  • Do  DOE  the method or the way

Therefore, Aikido means :

  • the method of coordinating your mental and physical presence
  • the way of blending all energy
  • the way of spiritual coordination
  • the way of harmonized energy
